EYG Commercial glazes innovative new-build primary school in London

25th January 2022

EYG Commercial was chosen as the glazing partner for an innovative new-build primary school in north London.

Ashmole Primary School, in Barnet, was delivered by Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure, who utilised off-site construction methods where possible.

The intermediate floor, roof and SIPS panels were all delivered in stages, and this helped to shorten the frame build by five weeks so that the school could open in time for the new term.

EYG worked closely with Morgan Sindall to coordinate the installation of the AluK windows and doors as well as louvres and sidescreens into the SIPS panels as soon as they arrived on site.

They installed 69 windows in the versatile AluK 58BW window system and 18 Secured by Design doors in AluK GT55, 15 of which into AlukSL52 curtain wall frames.

All of the AluK products were supplied to EYG in RAL7016 Anthracite Grey, offset with primary coloured panels on the sidescreens.

The AluK systems have been extensively proven in schools and educational settings, meeting the performance and security criteria, as well as providing slim sightlines to maximise natural light.

The new £7.5m primary school is a 22,300sq ft, 2-storey building designed for up to 420 pupils aged from 4 to 11. A free school, it is part of the Ashmole Academy Trust.

Nick Ward, Managing Director at EYG, commented: “We understand from Morgan Sindall that the entire build actually came in one week early, on budget and with zero snagging concerns. We’re proud to have played our part in that and to have demonstrated our commercial expertise on such a successful outcome.”
