Education, education, education: School projects show EYG are top of the class for new developments

EYG Commercial has again demonstrated its credentials in the education sector by being selected as the chosen glazing specialists on three new school developments across the UK.

Already boasting a back catalogue of work on impressive educational projects going back many years, EYG is currently on site of a new £5.5m development at the Wynyard Church of England Primary School in Billingham, County Durham.

The school, which has been operating from a temporary classrooms since it first opened in 2015, will move into its new permanent building in January 2019, with 266 children.

It will eventually have a capacity of nearly 460 children, including 39 full-time equivalent nursery places.

Working for ISG Construction, EYG is installing 50 Spectus PVC-U windows, including tilt and turn windows with night vents, and many windows which are as large as three metres by two-and-a-half metres in size.

EYG teams are also fitting Senior Architectural Systems’ aluminium doors as part of the contract, which is worth around £145,000 overall.

£960,000 contract at new £26million school

Included in the firm’s recent business wins in the education market is also a £960,000 contract with Mid Contacting & Consulting Ltd to install windows, doors and curtain walling at the Robert Clack Lymington Fields School in Dagenham.

The £26million project will see more than 1,500 pupils housed in a combined nursery, primary and secondary school facility when it opens in 2020.

EYG’s teams are expected to be on site in January of next year for the job, which is estimated to last around 25 weeks, installing ALUK systems including 77 curtain walling screens, 70 windows and 16 double and single sided doors.

Teleflex systems, electric strike access doors and rebound doors for the new sports hall, specifically required by Sport England, will also be installed, with the job being completed to Secured By Design (SBD) standards.

These two latest projects within the educational sector come as EYG has also recently completed the installation of ALUK windows, doors and curtain walling at Brooklands Primary School in Sale, Cheshire, in a £110,000 contract with Engie (formerly Keepmoat Regeneration).

Martin Sutton, operations director at EYG, says the educational sector has proved fruitful for the business in recent years, and is one in which their expertise is becoming increasingly acknowledged.

“It is pleasing to be selected for an increasing number of jobs in the education sector and we have been very proud to be chosen for a number of prestigious developments,” he said.

“There is quite rightly a lot of investment into improving school facilities across the UK, but whilst this is happening there is also a need for contractors such as ourselves to demonstrate excellent value for money developers.

“Having our own design teams and manufacturing facility, and our excellent relationships with leading system house partners, has ensured we have been able to do that. We have performed well on price and products.”

EYG completed the installation of windows and doors for the new £3m Art and Design Technology Centre at Pocklington School last year.

Previous educational projects have included installing 86 windows in a ribbon effect, six curtain walling screens and nine sets of doors at Hull Trinity House School and a striking curtain walling with no capping between the glazing to make it look frameless at the Grimsby School of Art.
