EYG Commercial completes windows, doors and curtain walling on £20m student accommodation and retail development in Coventry

EYG Commercial has completed a £620,000 contract to supply windows, doors and curtain walling on an impressive seven-storey student accommodation and retail development in Coventry.

The £20m Far Gosford Street complex includes retail space and restaurants alongside around 300 modern and spacious students’ flats.

Spending more than three months on site as the development came together, EYG Commercial, which manufactures all of its products at its headquarters in Hull, East Yorkshire, supplied and installed a mix of louvred windows and doors.

It also provided curtain walling screens and doors around the full ground and top floors of the striking, curved building.

The firm, which has enjoyed its most successful year in business and won major contracts across the UK, was selected by main contractors Bowmer & Kirkland Limited (B&K), a company which had a turnover of £848m in 2015.

B&K employs more than 1,400 staff from its Derbyshire headquarters, and in regional offices in Birmingham, Manchester, Motherwell, Newark, Reading, Sunderland and the United States.

Proud to be part of an iconic development

Steve Swallow, Commercial Director at EYG, says the firm was delighted to have been selected for the work by such a large and respected contactor, and on what has been an iconic development in a historic area of Coventry which has been a focus of recent regeneration work.

“This development, mixing hundreds of students with a new retail and restaurant offerings, will breathe new life into this area of the city and it has been a fantastic project to be part of,” said Mr Swallow.

“Bowmer & Kirkland are a contractor who pride themselves on quality, value, delivery and good practice to ensure the successful delivery of projects on time and on budget, so to be selected by them for this project was yet another endorsement of EYG Commercial, the quality of our windows, doors and curtain walling, and the standard of our service.

“It is another fine example of our work and a project we can feel very proud to say EYG Commercial were chosen for.”

Close to 300 students of Coventry University moved into the new development late last month, with all accommodation having sold before construction work even began. Each of the student flats come with fully fitted kitchens and free wi-fi in every room.

EYG Commercial this year secured the largest single contract in its history, a £5.1million deal to glaze one of the UK’s biggest care homes for the St Monica Trust in Bristol.

It is currently installing a £1.2million glazing package at a new 620-bed Premier Inn Hotel, working with the STC Group and Grove Developments.
