EYG Commercial makes moves in Midlands market following student accommodation glazing contract wins

4th March 2020

EYG Commercial’s business development manager Mike Hastie says the firm is looking to further develop its work with developers across the Midlands on the back of securing a number of contracts across the region.

In recent times we have seen fitting teams increasingly working across the Midlands and East Midlands, a market Mr Hastie feels EYG can add something new to by offering its expertise to new customers.

A significant break into the Midlands region initially came with a £495,000 glazing contract – including specialist thermal efficient windows - for Torsion Group on the Herbert House development in Birmingham.

The prominent former office building was converted into a mixed use redevelopment of ground floor commercial units with four floors of one and two bedroom apartments and studios above.

This has since been followed by another £760,000 contract with the same developer, again in Birmingham, on the multi-million pound 15-storey ‘Toybox’ project, where EYG were chosen to install curtain walling and slate grey tilt and turn windows on the striking development, which boasts 290 luxurious student flats.

Now, teams are again set to for work for Torsion on the £20m Red Queen 210-bed student accommodation complex in Coventry, installing curtain walling and PVC windows.

Having also completed a £258,000 contract with North Midland Construction (Now mncn) for the manufacture and installation of 260 windows across three school sites in Leicester last year, Mr Hastie says EYG has a growing reputation across the Midlands.

“It has been a significant period for us across the East Midlands and Midlands as our teams have constantly been working on major, multi-million pound developments across that part of the country,” he said.

“We are delighted to say that knowledge of our expertise, products and work as has clearly increased, particularly on accommodation developments.

“We’ve been delighted to secure repeat work from Torsion Group on some really showpiece projects. They were named Yorkshire’s fastest growing company last year, and have been named in the top 50 again this year, so that is an indication of how the work is out there in the construction sector for the right kind of developments.

“We feel their confidence in us sends out a really strong message about the quality of our products and work, and of course our ability to get the job done to the required standards and budgets.”

Mr Hastie is now spending an increasing amount of time visiting development sites for EYG in the Midlands, and meeting developers and contractors to discuss future projects, keen to build on the recent success.

“We’ve had people contact us for the very first time across this region and what we have to offer is being warmly received, so it is very encouraging,” he said.

“We may be something of a new face to some in the Midlands, but we are far from a new face in the industry given of track-record of working on large hotels, schools and mixed use developments. In fact we are one of the biggest and most experienced, so there are exciting opportunities ahead.

“When I meet developers I have a very clear message around the quality of our products, the reassurance we offer due to our size and experience, our commitment to being fully involved from start to completion and beyond, and our transparency and detail over costings

“As a respected, trusted and long-standing company which has some of the best products on the market and a track-record of delivering major projects on budget, we are confident we can win more significant work.”
