EYG has been delighted to work on the construction of a new £20m SEND school in East Yorkshire that will provide state-of-the-art facilities and accommodation.
St Anne’s School and Sixth Form College will re-locate from their current premises in Welton, to a purpose-built school with overnight accommodation for pupils and parents, in Hessle.
The build started in early 2020, and EYG was hired by contractor Tilbury Douglas – a leading UK construction company.
We started on site in March 2020 and the handover of the finished development is expected in May.
EYG Commercial manufactured and installed 230 ‘Saspure’ windows, which have a high ‘U’ value for thermal performance.
We also made and fitted 22 curtain walling screens, in a contract valued at £595,000.
The school will provide houses for children and their families, as well as supported living apartments for young adults wanting to live independently.
The development includes single-storey school and three-storey housing blocks, and will create a modern learning environment for St Anne’s 115 pupils.
EYG Commercial’s Senior Contracts Manager Neil Coxon said EYG faced many challenges through the build, which started at the beginning of the pandemic – and yet we delivered the project on time and within budget.
He said: “There have been challenges, with Covid coinciding with the start of the build.
“It has meant we have faced supply issues with materials, and it has been a very busy site, with lots of juggling, but we have managed it and finished on time.”
“I am really grateful of the superb teamwork from all of our installers, and our on-site supervisor who led the team.”
EYG Group’s Managing Director Nick Ward added: ““The new school will be a fantastic asset to St Anne’s and it has been a privilege to be part of such a worthwhile and important build.
“I am proud of the team for working in such difficult circumstances during the pandemic, and yet still delivering everything that the client required.
“We hope the pupils and their families will be very happy in their fantastic new surroundings.”
