EYG partners with thriving Hull builder on prestigious home development

24th May 2022

EYG Commercial is working with a Hull construction firm on a development of high-spec luxury homes in Pocklington which overlook the Yorkshire Wolds.

Calum Preston, Managing Director of Zenith Developments Group, bought the land during lockdown 2020, to develop housing in the small East Riding market town, where housing demand far outstrips supply.

Mr Preston, who founded the business six years ago and includes Aldi and the NHS as clients, said the land already had planning permission for four detached homes which had lapsed.

However, he applied to change the existing design.

He said: “The previous planning permission was for homes in the style of the existing houses currently within the area, which were built in the 90s. How we live in our homes now has changed and as such, the houses need a full overhaul and bringing up to current standards.

“As a business, we went back to the drawing board and produced what we believe is an outstanding re-design of the previous approved scheme.

“East Riding Council loved the designs, and pushed permission through.”

The houses are now executive five-bed homes with huge windows and curtain walling sections which maximise the views, spanning the nearby Kilnwick Percy golf course, and the picturesque Vale of York – which is a favourite scene for the renowned East Yorkshire artist David Hockney.

The build started in September 2021, and is due for completion late summer 2022.

Mr Preston said: “The homes have fantastic views over Pocklington and the Wolds, which are maximised by the huge windows in all of the bedrooms and the curtain walling to the large first floor landing area.

“We’ve really tried to make the most of the views, with EYG’s assistance, and we’ve managed to create something that will be an incredible development and a bench mark for surrounding housing developments.”

He added: “We are looking forward to completing this project. This is our first housing development on a very challenging piece of land, at one of the most prominent parts of Pocklington.

“The business is looking to expand the residential division, and create more bespoke developments.”

Dave Hargraves, Design Office Manager at EYG Commercial, worked closely with Mr Preston and the Zenith construction team on the development.

We manufactured and fitted AluK 58BW windows, AluK curtain walling, AluK 58BD front and back doors; and Eurocell roof lights.

The products were all manufactured in a contemporary slate grey colour.

Mr Preston added: “Dave came to site on a couple of occasions to go through the planning and logistics, ensuring the specification was correct, whilst paying particular attention to the finer details. The service has been exemplary thus far.”
