EYG shortlisted for major national award for glazing installation on unique parkland commercial development

17th January 2024

EYG’s commercial division has been shortlisted for a prominent national award for ‘installation of the year’.

We have been named as a finalist in the ‘Best Commercial Installation’ category at the prestigious Glass and Glazing Products Installer Awards 2024

It is recognition of the high quality of our work in manufacturing and installing bespoke windows and doors on a truly unique Yorkshire development.

The ‘Tree Tops’ development was created by Brookland Property Holdings in the beautiful grounds of Hesslewood Office Park in East Yorkshire – arguably one of the most breath-taking office lets in the country.

The project including the creation of five unique ‘treetop’ pods which are used for commercial business premises, set within ten acres of beautiful parkland.

The pods enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding parkland, the Humber estuary and the iconic Humber Bridge.

Floor to ceiling windows and bifold doors maximise visual impact

Brooklands Property Holdings developed the idea for the pods after the firm’s founders, Debbie and Peter Barbor, were inspired by a hotel in Asia which featured hotel rooms on stilts.

They wanted to maximise the views with floor to ceiling windows and bifold doors to fully reveal the glorious parkland setting.

Our teams manufactured and installed the glazing package, which was fitted in two phases -including during the height of winter – negotiating difficult conditions with the site being situated in muddy woodlands and with limited road access.

Run by Glass and Glazing magazine, the Glass and Glazing Products Installer Awards 2024 recognise the best installations and projects across the UK.

Nick Ward, managing director of EYG Group, said: “These treehouses are unique, we’ve never glazed anything quite like these before, and although you might see designs like this in the hospitality sector, I imagine they’re highly unusual in the commercial offices sector.

“Not only that but the entire development was situated in the grounds of a historic listed building, and so the design needed to work hard to make sure the old and the new blended together.

“We believe the finished design was a real triumph, the fact that the pods were all fully let even before we’d finished the first one is a sure sign of how highly sought-after they were. It was a fantastic development to be involved with and one that we are proud to have been able to add to our portfolio.”

Richard Saunders, sales and estimating director at EYG Commercial, said it was “fantastic” for his team to be shortlisted for the award.

“The team worked really hard to meet the client’s brief, to bring their vision to life, and to find the right products for this exceptional build,” he said.

“It is really fantastic to see that hard work and commitment recognised in these national awards, and it was a whole team effort from how we handled the initial enquiry, through to placing the final piece of glass into place.”

‘Seamless project completed on time and within budget’

JP Zanatta, Chief Operating Officer at Brooklands Property Holdings, said of their work with EYG: “We knew EYG Commercial already, as we have worked with them for several years and we work well together, from the sales team who understand what we need or how we do things, through to the installation teams and fitters.

“We don’t do things “normally”, we are not the average firm as we develop a range of different often slightly obscure buildings. In the past we’ve worked with EYG on acoustic windows for a radio studios, and curved aluminium walling for a temple gym, and they understand and can deliver what we need.

“Therefore, we knew that they were the right people for this job. It is also great to be able to use a local firm as well.

“The whole project was seamless. We were provided with the sample profile for the frames and the running gear for the doors, windows and bifolds. We made our structural openings to suit so we had the right access heights and thresholds.

“The increased number of windows and bifold doors means that those stunning views of Hesslewood’s parkland remain uninterrupted, whilst playing to each pod’s contemporary and minimalist aesthetic, externally.

“The entire project was on time and within budget. The development itself is now thriving. We were fully let before we’d even finished the first unit and we are delighted with the project and delighted with EYG.”

The winner of the awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in Manchester in March.

EYG previously won an award at the GGP awards in 2023, for ‘Best conservatory installation under £35k’ for our work on a domestic property in East Yorkshire where the home owner had lost thousands to two separate building firms.

We managed to create their dream extension on their vastly-reduced budget, giving them exactly what they’d originally planned – saving their home extension plans amid the stress of losing a significant amount of money.
