EYG wins prestigious Heart Award for commitment to supporting communities and charities

EYG’s commitment to supporting local communities and charities has been recognised with the firm receiving the ‘Business in the Community’ prize in the 2016 Hull Daily Mail Heart Awards.

The awards, staged at the KCOM Stadium, recognise some of the most inspirational and remarkable people across the region.

They turn the spotlight on those who have ‘turned adversities into triumphs, keep our communities ticking and who act without hesitation to save lives, change futures and make a difference.’

EYG secured the Business in the Community Award as judges were impressed with the company’s ‘commitment to going the extra mile to support charities’.

Continuous support for important charities

It comes after EYG, which has a long proven track record of supporting charities across East Yorkshire, recently celebrated raising £13,000 at its sixth annual golf day, which it sponsors for The Smile Foundation.

The annual golf event has so far raised more than £65,000 for a variety of local charities through EYG’s partnership working with Smile.

Hosted by EYG, money from the latest Golf Day will go towards The Vault, which is run by Smile and supports over 500 local charities in the area by hiring out equipment most charities do not have the money to buy or the space to store.

EYG was also recognised in the awards for donating £7,500 of home improvement products to a family from Hull who were being helped by the BBC ‘DIY SOS’ programme.

Dad-of-two Jason Liversidge had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease, and his home desperately needed adapting and refurbishing to help him and his family cope as his terminal illness progresses.

The home was transformed with two composite doors, two bay windows, and four other windows and guttering. There were also two sets of French doors for a new extension, which EYG also supplied and fitted.

Last year, EYG also donated three large windows worth £5,000 to a Hull sporting club that had been repeatedly targeted by vandals and burglars.

The Marist Sporting Club, in Cranbrook Avenue, Hull, had been victim to a spate of burglaries when they turned to EYG for help.

One of the club’s trustees, John Chapman, said the club could not afford to keep replacing the smashed windows, but after EYG stepped in to help, the future of the club is now looking more secure too.

Committed to helping the community

EYG Managing Director Nick Ward said: “We have been fortunate enough to pick up a number of awards recently relating to the success of the business, but to be recognised for giving back to your local community is very special.

“We have been involved in some really rewarding projects over the past 12 months, none more so than when we were involved with the BBC ‘DIY SOS’ programme, alongside many other Hull companies, to help Jason Liversidge and his family.

“We don’t do it for awards, but it is certainly nice to know your efforts are appreciated. It was an emotional night and it was really uplifting to hear how so many local people have the determination and character to succeed against the odds.

“On the day plans for the 2017 City of Culture in Hull were announced, it was fitting to hear about the many inspirational people we have in this city.”

In recent years EYG has supported a number of Smile Foundation events, taking part in Devil’s Kitchen in a cook-off with a rival team that saw diners being catered for and served by amateurs in a restaurant setting, and donating what they thought the resulting meal was worth.

Mr Ward was also locked up as part of Smile’s ‘Boss Behind Bars’ initiative, and with the phenomenally-successful Golf Day, their contribution to the charity is significant, supporting charities such as Hull Families Project, Men’s Sheds, and Smile By The Sea.

In addition, they’ve supported one-off projects such as giving windows to Hull Families Project for their offices, sponsoring the powerboat racing in Hull, supporting school fairs, and buying football kits for kids’ teams.
