Soaring demand for EYG’s ‘steel look’ heritage windows and doors

18th April 2023

EYG’s own range of steel-look UPVC or aluminium windows and doors are becoming increasingly popular – with builders finding it much sought-after by home renovators and newbuild customers.

The heritage style window in black UPVC or aluminium comes with either Georgian or astragal bars, imitating the famous ‘Crittall’ style.

EYG’s Trade Sales Manager Tim Hotte said he is seeing a spike in demand for the stylish window and door style, with trade customers increasingly being asked to install them on newbuild homes and for house renovation projects.

Tim said: “This window style is really popular, we have had a lot of inquiries and orders on them, and it’s not difficult to see why people love them. The black frames really do look fantastic on most styles of houses.

“A lot of my trade clients are now installing them, and because we manufacture them in UPVC or aluminium we are able to make them at a far more competitive price than the original steel framed windows.”

Choose either aluminium or UPVC

EYG Commercial manufactures the windows in either black aluminium 58BW STHI profile, or UPVC, both of which have high U values.

The Georgian bar comes in 25ml thickness, which is far slimmer than lots of other windows on the market, which is a better replica of the original traditional style.

Tim added: “The original makers of this window created a unique design in the 1880s which is still going strong all these years later.

“Our steel-look windows and doors pay homage to this appearance, but by using UPVC or aluminium we can offer a lower cost to our trade customers.”

Loved by Instagram influencer

We recently installed this style of window at the home of an Instagram influencer who goes by the name of @mishkashoe, who devoted a reel to the window to show to her 300k followers.

Michaela, aka Mishkashoe, has amassed a huge following from interiors-lovers who adore her budget-friendly home interiors hacks.

She devoted an entire reel to her EYG black UPVC windows which we made in the heritage steel-look style with astragal bars.

Going by the Instagram name @mishkashoe, Michaela has gained over 300k followers who love her DIY projects which look designer and expensive, yet are affordable.

Michaela, who lives with her family in east Yorkshire, shares her ideas on transforming her once-dated bungalow into a stylish home - all while saving money by often doing the work herself and using cheaper materials to achieve a high-end look.

Michaela was a huge fan of the ‘Crittall’ style of windows, and turned to us to achieve this expensive designer look on a budget.

We manufactured a black UPVC frame which we glazed with internal bars to create the signature look which is synonymous with Crittall.

Michaela was thrilled with the look and said: “Crittall windows and doors are so popular right now and everyone always asks me about my living room window, which is from EYG and manufactured in the Crittall style.

“I approached EYG about creating this look for me, and it wasn’t something the representative had seen before, but they followed my design and wishes, and I was really happy with it.”

Heritage-style windows – The Facts

Crittall windows and doors are black steel-framed with a grid-like appearance.

They originate from the 1880s, but have never gone out of style in all that time – and popularity is at a peak right now, with many home renovators and self-builders favouring them.

EYG launched its own range of steel-look windows and doors last year in response to the increased demand.

Responding to what customers are looking for

EYG Managing Director Nick Ward said: “We always adapt according to the market and what our customers are wanting.

“We launched our garden rooms during the pandemic when we saw a massive increase in the demand for a standalone building that worked as a home office.

“Similarly, the Crittall look has been popular since the 1880s, and shows no sign of waning.

“This style of window is not just popular on domestic properties, we are also seeing it installed in offices, shopfronts, and in the retail sector.

“We work on many house renovation projects with builders, and this heritage style window is really attractive as well as competitively-priced, with all the benefits of modern windows such as security and energy efficiency.”

EYG Commercial can manufacture this heritage style in our range of windows and front doors, as well as bifold, sliding patio and French doors too.
