EYG Commercial the choice for glazing on high-quality accommodation projects in Leeds and York

EYG Commercial has completed the installations of windows, doors and curtain walling at two new impressive student accommodation complexes in Leeds and York.

It has seen the East Yorkshire firm again chosen by Robertson Construction Ltd to work on a new four-storey student accommodation building on Lawrence Street in York.

It follows work last year for the same company on the Portobello House student accommodation scheme in Sheffield.

Robertson Construction, one of the largest independently owned construction, infrastructure and support services groups in the UK, was appointed to the project by Harrison Developments to oversee the new facility, which provides 115 bedrooms in a mix of one, two, three and five bed en-suite apartments.

EYG’s teams installed ALUK 58BW windows and ALUK GT55TB doors in a contract worth £81,500.

The project needed close work alongside English Heritage and local architects, as the listed building had been empty for many years and had fallen into significant disrepair. The redevelopment has seen the frontage onto Lawrence Street returned to its original splendour.

The accommodation has been named after Samuel Tuke, a prominent Quaker and social campaigner and a pioneer in the treatment of mental health, who is commemorated on site.

£9m Leeds development breathes new life into historic site

In Leeds, JM Construction, developers with a track record of transforming sites across West Yorkshire into exceptional places to live, turned to EYG for its glazing, doors and curtain walling on the £9m development of new student facilities Tate House Student Accommodation, at the former Tate Cars headquarters on New York Road.

The premises have been converted into a contemporary residential scheme comprising 74 apartments, including roof top penthouses with views across the city.

The project connects the new building to the former Tam O’ Shanter public house, and involved works to a former working men’s club. The overall project includes a cinema, reception, laundry, cycle store and offices, as well as a gym, a games room and a common room.

It offers a choice of one, two and three bedroom accommodation specified to a high standard, in the heart of the vibrant Northern Quarter and less than five minutes’ walk from the city’s main retail and commercial core.

As part of a £162,000 contract, EYG Commercial installed ALUK 58BW windows, ALUK BSC94 sliding doors and, ALUK SL52 curtain walling.

Proud to transform buildings into communities

Both jobs have been overseen by EYG project manager Neil Coxon, and Commercial Director Steve Swallow says the contracts reflect a growing area of work for the company.

“We were very pleased to secure these contracts on two very high quality developments, led by contractors who have a reputation for transforming buildings and areas in cities into vibrant new communities which breathe new life into the area.

“Both projects have respected the local history and importance of the buildings’ pasts.

“They have been the latest in a string of student accommodation projects that our windows, doors and curtain walling products have been chosen for, and alongside new hotel developments, this has been an increasing area of our work.”
